On July 27-30, me, Jared, my three Sisters, Brother, Brother in law, and Dad were able to go on a pack trip up to Bear Creek, Colorado. It was a tradition for my family when we were growing up to go there once a year but since we all went off to college we hadn't been able to go in a while, so luckily we were able to go this year. We were bummed that my mom and sister in law didn't go but they were life savers and baby sat the kids.
We left Monday afternoon (our intent was early Mon. morning) but as usual that didn't happen. We only rode in that night about two miles and made camp before it got too dark. And with only a few little mis-haps. Jared's horse was a little excited and kept rearing up--no big deal until he reared up a little too far and was a little too close to the edge and Jared had to jump off and reign him back down. But remember he didn't fall off, he jumped off. And then Ashlie's horse was deathly afraid to cross little tiny trickles of water and wouldn't walk nicely across but decided to leap as far as she could all the while trying to give Ashlie whip lash. So incidents that were a little nerve racking at first but now we can't stop laughing about them.
Tuesday morning we packed up our things and packed up the mountain another six miles and made a permanent camp for the next two nights. The day before we were leaving to head home, a few horses were out grazing and three were hobbled and two were not and those two decided they were done with the pack trip and ready to go home so they took off back down the mountain. Jared instantly took off after them on foot but only got about a quarter of a mile before he realized they were long gone and so me and my brother saddled up and went after them. All the while we were having flash backs from a few years ago on one of our pack trips of him and me chasing a pack horse up the mountain that was loaded with our stuff. We had to chase him for probably four hours. So we were hoping this was not a recap of that because it was close to dark. Luckily, we caught up to them after about 20 minutes but they were dead set on going home.
Then the morning we left we got all packed up and were just starting out on the trail and one of our pack horses got spooked and started bucking and tossing our stuff out everywhere. We all had a good laugh watching him and reloaded our stuff and headed home. We fished a lot, ate great food, got rained on (you can't have a pack trip without getting rained on), laughed a lot and we can't wait to do it again.
This is one of my favorite places to go. It is SO beautiful!!

Us girls had a blast hanging out together

I think Jared was wearing his back pack in case he got launched :)

We had some good laughs--sorry Dad, I couldn't resist

The whole crew

My Favorites--just happened to be taking pictures when the pack horse went crazy
